Five gang members in the Bronx dragged 15-year-old Lesandro Guzman-Feliz out of the Cruz and Chiky grocery on Wednesday night and brutally murdered him by stabbing and punching him repeatedly. Now, it appears they killed the boy in a case of mistaken identity as a member of the Trinitarios street gang reportedly apologised to the boy’s relatives in a recording.
“I know it doesn’t mean a lot. It wasn’t supposed to be him,” the message said.
Police said the mistaken-identity may have been from a sex video that involved one of the gang member’s relatives that was posted on Facebook. It featured a similar-looking boy facing the camera.
“A nude young woman having sex in the video may be related to one of the attackers — and cops are investigating whether he rallied his friends to seek revenge, only to slaughter an innocent teen,” sources told The New York Post.
Guzman-Feliz, known as “Junior” had never been in trouble, and dreamed of becoming a police detective. He was enrolled in the NYPD Explorers program, a group for those 14-20 who would like to join law enforcement.
“I have no reason to live my life,” Guzman-Feliz’s mother said in her grief. “They kill him. They kill me, too. I’m ready to die. You can put me with my son.”
“The murder has drawn widespread attention, including viral comment on #JusticeForJunior, $60,000 in GoFundMe donations and outraged tweets from Cardi B and Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia — who Saturday tweeted, ‘I’m a father of four and couldn’t imagine losing any one of my own kids. The violence and hate needs to stop,'” The New York Post reported.
