In the city of Culemborg in central Netherlands, a public swimming pool building planned to be reconstructed into a mosque was set on fire Wednesday. The Association of Islamic Communities had purchased the building last April.
It is believed the fire was first set at the pool, then spread to the rest of the building. Police are investigating the incident, and arson is suspected.
“Islamophobia has been on the rise in Netherlands in recent years,” the Daily Sabah reported, and according to them “19 mosques in Netherlands were attacked a total of 27 times in 2015.”
