During a 10-day crackdown that ended Aug. 3, immigration agents brought in 32 convicted sex offenders on Long Island, and held them for deportation.
The crackdown was called “Operation SOAR” an acronym for “Sex Offender Alien Removal.”
“Twelve of the nabbed are registered sex offenders, including a 24-year-old man from El Salvador arrested for sexual contact with a 4-year-old girl in Wyandanch,” the Daily News reported.
Others had convictions ranging from sex abuse to attempted rape, including a 36-year-old from Guatemala convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl, and a 32-year-old Honduran man who was convicted of having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
“ICE doesn’t provide further details or identify the people it rounds up,” Daily News said. “A departure from what police departments do as a matter of course when they make arrests.”
