Road signs that detect whether a person is using their mobile phone inside their car or not now exist, and the first was introduced on Thursday to be trialed in Norwich, England.
Though the signs cannot tell if a driver or passenger is using a handset, it is hoped the signs will remind drivers of the law and to get off their phones
“Norfolk County Council’s Road Safety team have developed the technology in partnership with vehicle sign technology local company Westcotec,” Fleetwood Weekly News reported. “The technology cannot record cars’ registration or issue fines, but the data it collects will be shared with Norfolk police to set up potential future crackdowns.”
Westcotec are working to implement the technology in other parts of the world as well, such as Argentina, Slovenia and New Zealand.
