Off-Duty Sheriff’s Deputy Shoots Armed Man Who Kicked in Her Door – News Refers to Home-Invader as ‘The Victim’

An off-duty Wayne County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot an armed man in a black ski mask who woke her up by kicking in her door at around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday.

“The deputy told police she grabbed her weapon and fired shots at the male intruder, who was armed with a pistol and wearing a black ski mask, striking him in the chest and heart,” the Detroit News reported.

The 26-year-old home-invader was pronounced dead on the scene. At this time his death appears to be self-defense, but Detroit police are investigating, and the sheriff’s deputy, a 15-year police veteran, will be assigned administrative duties until after the outcome of internal investigation.

According to Andrew Blake of The Maven, Gino Vicci of WXYZ referred to the home-invader as “the victim” in a news broadcast.

“Do you think that news stations should ever refer to justifiably dead criminals as ‘victims?’ Do you think that this is intentional anti-police messaging?” Blake asked.

“Not much you can do,” neighbor, Curran Pickett, said. “I would have probably did the same thing. She did what she had to do.”

Click On Detroit reported that neighbors hope this serves as a reminder to anyone thinking about breaking into homes.

“Stay out of people’s houses,” Pickett said.
